“Health is a state of complete harmony of the body, mind and spirit”

The word yoga has it’s root from the Sanskrit word “Yuj” that means “to yoke” ,  “to unite”, “to connect” or “discipline”. Yoga is usually translated as union due to  its methods and practices that can lead to profound connection, alignment and integration of body mind and spirit.

Yoga uses methods like physical postures (asanas), breathing exercises (pranayama), and meditation (dhyana) to improve overall health, awareness and connection from within.

The earliest confirmed evidence of yoga dates back to over 5000 years ago in India. Even if modern yoga has no doubt very little resemblance to yoga’s beginning, the yoga discipline to unite and connect the body, mind and soul still remains the same. The western world was introduced to the yoga tools during the mid 19th century but it wasn’t until the 1960’s that yoga became really popular with the mainstream public. It was not until the 1990’s that the idea of mindfulness was fully established and recognised in mainstream western health and lifestyles.

“To unite” also refers to other things like sun and moon, hot and cold, happy and sad, to unify the opposites to create harmony. Two opposites working together mindfully for a common purpose. Of course it can take a lot of effort to unify opposite forces, and in the Yoga practice you get invited to build capacity to hold all aspects of your life in your body with simple yoga tools. So you can create awareness and connection with your body and your emotions with compassion and curiosity, working towards fully aligning your inner compass with your true inner direction. The word yoga has it’s root from the Sanskrit word “Yuj” that means “to yoke” ,  “to unite”, “to connect” or “discipline”.
